Place the pan in the room and fill it halfway with water and a few drops of liquid dish detergent. Give it a good stir; the water should be good and soapy. Finally, place the light near the pan of soapy water and turn off all other lights in the room. And sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
The odor that they release will repel other stink bugs from coming nearby. We don’t recommend stomping on them with your foot, since you can easily track their carcass inside afterward and create a mess in your house. Instead, try to use something that can be easily rinsed off or thrown away afterward, like a rolled up magazine or plastic fly swatter. Note that squashing stink bugs should only be done when you’re outside and the odor can disperse, rather than inside where the odor will be trapped around you. Add all of the ingredients to your spray bottle and be sure to shake before each use. While the dish soap will help kill off stink bugs, the lavender oil smell deters other stink bugs from coming back to your plants.

Numerous stink bug species are native to the United States, but brown marmorated stink bugs originated in Asia. They made their way to the U.S. in the 1990s and were first discovered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1998. Be sure to store perishables in airtight, sealed containers, and dispose of any rotten or overripe fruit in the bowl. Ensure you clean up spills on countertops immediately and wipe down daily. In addition, sweep floors or use one of the best vacuum cleaners to eliminate crumbs and keep it spotless. If the stink bug problem has made its way inside your house, identify the area of entry.
There are a couple of ways you can use garlic to keep stink bugs away from your home. You’ll want to avoid the use of insecticides in battling stink bugs for multiple reasons. First, adult stink bugs are hardy may shake off the effects. Also, by using insecticides, you expose members of your household and yourself to toxic chemicals that can impair your health. And, if you okay with the possibility of a sting or two, grow wildflowers in your yard.

Better yet, these solutions can also help keep other insects away from your land and house. Caulking the various crevices and thin cavities in your home can not only deny access to stink bugs but also seal in your climate control. Even better, this low-cost solution also makes cosmetic improvements. Capsaicin, the chemical in hot peppers that gives them their signature heat, works by burning the exterior of the stink bugs. Using a plastic bottle is ideal, however, because if the bug decides to stink, you trap the odor in the bottle. Once you have the bug, flush it down the toilet or stick the bottle outside, where the bug will freeze.
How to get rid of stink bugs with dish soap, vinegar spray, and more
For once, you can be glad to have a smoker in the house! Shred cigarettes or butts into a volume of warm water (use about 20 cigarettes’ worth of tobacco for every gallon). Let the mixture soak overnight, and in the morning, strain out the debris. Next, add about 2 tablespoons of dish detergent to the liquid that remains, then funnel the solution into a spray bottle.
You can then choose to relocate them by emptying the vac canister outside. You’ll need a disposable aluminum roasting pan, a bright lamp or work light, water, and dishwashing soap. Granted, this solution does take a little time, but with patience, it can be an easy way to manage your home invasion.

To use diatomaceous earth, sprinkle some on the soil around your house, concentrating on areas near possible entry points. Spray the garlic water around entry points, around the exterior of your home, and around your garden. In order to keep away even more bugs, take care to turn your lights off in the evening and at night. Leave the lights on only when necessary and consider using a timer or motion activated light to make sure you don’t forget to turn them off. In the morning, you can go outside and slide the paper towel, and all the bugs on it, directly into a garbage bag.
Bear in mind that you’ll need to wipe up afterward with this method. Instead of feeding, stink bugs in diapause burn through nutrients they spent the spring and summer stockpiling. Basically, they fatten themselves up for winter just like squirrels.

To use garlic as a stink bug repellent, just mix garlic into water and add to a spray bottle. You can drop a couple whole cloves of garlic into the water, add some minced garlic, or even just sprinkle in a teaspoon or two of garlic powder. You probably know that many species of insects are attracted to lights. White lights especially can bring moths, flies, mosquitoes, stink bugs, and more to your front porch. This puts them closer to the front door and more likely to get inside.
